It's Canada Day tomorrow!

... and that means that it's time to show your low-key but still patriotic affection for your country by making a kitschy dessert.

Like this one that I made last year:

Yeah, that was magnificent. The recipe is here, should you feel inspired to make a (likely better) version yourself.

Or you could make a red-and-white Canada Day cake.

Or you could make some festive cupcakes.

Or you could express your True Patriot Love by drinking a Caesar.

So tomorrow, we'll be doing the small-town Canada Day thing. I hope that you have a fun and relaxing day tomorrow, whatever you'll be doing.

My small-town grocery store stocks 2 litre tins of pure clam juice. For the longest time I could not fathom WHY?!, till I realized that I live in a town that takes it's Caesars very, very seriously. GAH!

I will limit my celebrations to eating boiled weiners at the Legion, and playing Kim Mitchell's oeuvre.

A very happy Canada day to our closest, friendliest neighbors. We appreciate y'all.

I think chocolate needs a turn. How 'bout this year's cake be red, white and chocolate?

Happy happy!
I still think that cake is beautiful and want to make one here, just because it looks so very delicious. Maybe I could teach my kids a Canada lesson and we could eat your wonderful Canada cake as a treat. :0)
Enjoy the day.

Ooh, I am making angel food cake with strawberries and whipped cream! Also I will be downing my requisite red wine. Celebrate!

Like I said: Nanaimo bars. And a potluck hosted by friends who have a pool. Perhaps followed by fireworks near the university. Sadly, rain in the forecast. So maybe not so much fireworks. Whatever. It's also so crowded.

Except that I'm a Yankee and don't celebrate a Day for two more days...

Enjoy! Looks luscious!

BTW, Subspace Beacon - boiled weiners and Kim Mitchell??? That totally made me laugh.

I myself will be perving out on Jim Cuddy (JIM CUDDY!!! Sexiest Canadian alive! Except my husband!) but that is another story.

I miss small town celebrations.
The big city ones are a little crowded for my taste. I think we will hang out here, maybe make a cake:)
Happy Canada Day!

Well, I think I got y'all beat: we made 3 colour popsicles today. (won't tell you just WHAT 3 colours or you might all laugh) And my kids are going to be riding the 4H float in the local parade. Hehaw.

Talk about FESTIVE.

The strawberries looked so fresh!
*sigh* all the strawberries here came from overseas, so you can be thankful if it still looks red.

By the way, Happy Canada Day!

happy canada day!

btw....did you know that our 4th of july is actually a mistake and a result of loads of paperwork in the continental congress? the congress actually voted and agreed on independence on july 2. john adams wrote to his wife that july 2 would be a day remembered throughout our nation's history with fireworks and celebrations of all sorts, etc, etc. i used to have a copy of the letter somewhere in my teaching days. but it took until the 4th for everyone to get the thing signed!
my husband's tired of that story and it really confuses people when i wish them a happy 4th but should have been the 2nd of july.

Whatever drink needs 2 liters of pure clam juice is not something I want to get near, ever!

Happy Canada Day!

By tradition, I don't bake for Canada Day. Vanilla ice cream with strawberries is as red and white as it gets. But I still think your cake looks delish. I did splurge and buy mini cupcake this year with red maple leaf shaped sprinkles on them. Yeah, I went all out this year. LOL.

Note to self: do NOT read Beck's blog when you are already starving for dinner to be ready.

Hope y'all had a nice celebratory day.

Can you figure how to make red velvet cupcakes festive for us down here in the USA?

There needs to be blue somewhere.....

I read the other day that CANADA was in the top 5 or 10 places that people want to see in the world. Everyone was like, "wha?" But the article said it had lots of natural beauty and stuff like that. :) So, way to go, Canada! And aren't you lucky to LIVE there, yourself?! Happy Canada Day!

I'm trying my hand at homemade butter tarts. Yes, I do like to tackle a huge challenge every once in a while. :)
