And as for Mr. Beck?

Gosh, we're admirable.
I do think - all kitchy vintage tests aside - that what makes a person a good spouse probably does not change that wildly from decade to decade. Being respectful, kind, good-humoured and loving are ageless virtues, regardless of how domestic details vary from era to era. I do think that my husband - hard-working, kind-hearted, patient and polite - would be a winner in any era, although possibly NOT in the filthy, disgusting 1970s.
Hey, we're painting our bedroom today! It looks like this right now:
My husband PAINTED that, back when our room was The Girl's room, and it's quite cute but neither of us are a six year old girl, so it's time for a change.
Okay, this is just totally gratuitous. If men knew how women felt about them doing household repairs, there would be a LOT more household repairs going on. And probably a population increase.
Anyhow. We're also painting the floor today - yay! - and if we had more money, we'd put in some gorgeous hardwood floors or something, but we don't, so paint it is. So guess what colour we're painting the room? I'll post some more pictures tonight when everything is done, since we're going to be sleeping down here and everything.

First of all, your husband's pink paint job of the girl's old room is gorgeous. What a talent! Second, I can't wait to see what your new room will look like. Have a great day!
Took that last night after I saw it on Meredith's page.
I got the lowest ranking possible... I think it said, "Very Poor (Failure)" And I'm actually okay with that.
Ha Ha Ha...Nice shots Beck! The hubby and I had a good laugh over the home repairs comment. Can't wait to see the new colour choice.
Me too! I am also a very superior housewife--haven't checked hubby. :)
And long ago my husband learned that very thing about household stuff-except for me it is mostly "Take out the garbage" sort of stuff, but yeah, such a turn on.:)
I just popped on for a sec and when I started laughing out loud (re: home repair comment) my sweetie came alongside for a listen. I read and he LAUGHED way big. Uhhhhhh ... darling, where are you going with that hammer??? ; )
That's an ADORABLE room for a 6-year old girl.
household repairs can be VERY sexy- unless they happen in the middle of the night when the light fixture comes crashing down, waking the whole house.
Yes, that actually happened.
I LOVE the pink for a girl's room! Adorable. And YAY for men who work around the house! HOT.
I really love those pink squares too, but I am curious as to what you are replacing it with...maybe a nice warm, light brown? Something earthy is what I was thinking.
Men who do jobs around the house. Oh yes.
Haha! (and hubba hubba!) In our home, household repairs are almost divorce-inducing! LOL!
That is a great paint job. I can't even guess what color you are painting. White. That is my non-guess guess.
I'm going to guess an avocado shade of green. My husband would have rated really well in the 1970's...god love him. And today is our anniversary, which we *both* forgot this year. How un-romantic can a couple get? (must be all the chaos in our lives)
Can't wait to see the new paint job ... especially seeing as the old one was so very impressive!
And you're right about men who know how to fix/take care of/do useful things around the house! ;-)
That's why we are so lazy. Doing our part to keep the population down.
nice, nice and nice.
off to see how I fare on the test...
And they say men are such simple creatures. If they only knew the True Secret to women's happiness lay right there in the tool box...
My oldest daughter walked in to see the pink plaid and said, "I want to do that in my room!" See what you've done??
My daughter would love that paint job. (And she's almost a 6-year-old girl!)
Oh dear. I am only superior....at a 74. My hubby, on the other hand, is a very superior 132. I wonder how he feels about a wife who "walks around the house in her stockinged feed." Ah well. Very funny test.
Black? I really don't know.
I did that thingey before and did surprisingly well on it!!
I agree about the home repairs! If they only knew...
That little girl's paint job is amazing! I guess that what your rooms look like when you marry an artist!
I know the color probably won't be red. ;v) Let's see, a very soft romantic yellow? Hope you post after pictures.
Very impressive. Both the paint and the test scores. We were painting too today. The exterior of the house. Brown. It was soooooooooo tedious. Maybe I'll suggest gingham pink next time.
I love that room... and Bless your husband for the AWESOME job he did. I have a parenting book from 1930... I love the part where it says to put on some makeup just before your husband arrives home... and make sure the kids have washed faces and clean clothes... Ha!
102 for me. Still Very Superior but not quite as very superior as some.
"Yes, but what about his forearms?" asked the blogger channeling The Pioneer Woman.
Hotness, hotness, and more hotness! Sorry Beck, but the sight of a man about to do home repair is just more than my deployed-husband-havin' self can stand!
I'm impressed. By, well, pretty much everything in this post.
I can't wait to see the "after" pictures!
That checkerboard paint must have looked beautiful for your Girl--what a great idea! But I agree--time for a change, right?!
I got Poor. BIG SURPRISE there, seeing as I don't cook or clean and like to lounge about in my pajamas when given half a chance.
awww how wonderful and I could not agree more that men doing things around the homestead is totally yummy!
I actually kind of love the gingham...
And you are so right about the household repairs thing. The smell of cut pine has taken on a rather strangely erotic quality to me...
And, too, I quite agree that what makes a spouse good is not so much in the list of duties, which changes over time, but in the underlying respect and care for one another. Time doesn't change the value of being good to each other.
That is one creative man you married! I have to wonder if a man painting that sort of creative pink masterpiece would perhaps have been frowned upon in the 30s.....what with rationing and all. :)
Can't wait to see the room makeover.
Off to take the test.
I can see that it's time for a change -- the Girl must have loved this room at the right time, though. Great to have a handyman in the family.
Wow! Looks AWESOME!!
LOVE the gratuitous shot, too!!! :P
I have to try that quiz, too....
Wow! Impressive. Kudos to your husband, for doing this in the first place, and - perhaps even more impressive - for being willing to paint over it.
hurray for manual labor! i wish we had a lawn so i could make jason mow it. or some trees to chop down or something... :)
i would have loved that room as a kid!!
Love the gratuitous Mr. Fix-it shot!
I'm getting the itch, too, to paint, to modify, to own anew.
Dear husband still can't understand how him doing housework can translate into my being extra loving!
Ahhh, a man with tools. Does me good too.
Love that paint job. Also love the gratuitous shot, because, like you, I adore my husband when he's in a t-shirt and paint-stained jeans and a little sweaty and frankly a little smelly and I want to just jump him right there. So yes, very very accurate.
I got a 37: Poor. Oh well. :)
Ha! New to your blog and I think you got me with your stint about men working around the house and there being a population increase. Too funny, yet so true.
