The Saddest Pie In The World

*THE PIE TEMPERATURE IS 375.*

I made a pie today and that pie did not turn out. Go read my sad tale of failed pie making.

Other than that? Hot, mosquitoes, headache, kids back in school (THANKYOUGOD), Baby throwing one bit long tantrum. The end! See ya tomorrow.

(p.s. - Bethany has a list of AMAZING summer fun ideas up at her site, should you be wanting some good ones. I particularily like the idea of a tie-dye day. Smart!)

That is such an excellent post. A great crust recipe plus admission of failure=someone whose recommendations I can trust.

The most criminal part of a failure like that is that I would still eat it ALL because it is pie and pies are good.

I get upset when I make something and it doesn't work out too. When I was pregnant and didn't hear the timer go off to signal my pizza crust was done...burnt...you'd have thought it was the end of the world.

HEY! Suburban moms permitted me to comment. Fingers crossed at least.

The skeeters hatched this weekend. That means the ETA on the black flies is 2 weeks. Ah. Life in the bush. Soooooo glamourous.

Your pie looked so pretty! Really, that was a burnt crust? Couldn't be!

Wow, it certainly LOOKS yummy, though!

I'll trade you the hot weather you're having for the rainy, cool, down to 58 this week weather! In JUNE!
(Except you can keep your "skeeters" though!) ;)

It's a very nice looking pie. Those tasteless cherries sure were red and lovely looking.

:)

Nothing like kitchen mishaps for spectacular blogging!

I am reminded of that story. you would know it. Was it from Frog and Toad? Teardrop Tea? Oh the sadness of a failed pie. Of a tantrum. of bugs and heads and heat....

A pie with bad fruit is a bad pie indeed.

(Does that sound pithy? Or just like I need to go to bed?)

If it's any consolation, the crust SOUNDS lovely. I'll have to try it sometime. I'm on a pie streak right now.

Though it wasn't a success story to boost about, but hey, it still looks yummy!

I like the water gun war idea myself. Thanks for the tip to look at Bethany's place.

I've never had a pie that didn't turn out... Now a cake or cookie, that's a whole different story! Of course, here is where I confess that I've never made a cherry pie either, so there's always a first.

Pies continue to elude me... It's the whole two separate but necessary components thing - inevitably one or the other comes out poorly. Don't feel bad. Lesson learned about the cherries and you'll make a great one next time!

All that work for nothing. Ugh.

I made gluten free donuts that were icky. They tasted like fried cookie dough, which sounds nice, but seriously weren't.

Hey Beck: Don't mean to be all "Mom-ish" on you, but try your pie again when the smaller, sour pie cherries are in season! They even grow around these parts - Aunt Dora had a great tree on the farm. I think the variety in the stores now are meant for eating raw - and they are VERY tasty if you go to Traverse City area in Michigan and pick them fresh! Now there is a summer outing for you!

Hey, I'm impressed with the pie! I've only made cherry pies out of a stinking kit! And that's what my hubby loves more than life - cherry pie. I really should learn. Now pecan pie, I can make a pretty good one of those!

Well, at least the crust came out right. I would just eat that part with some whip cream perhaps. I can never get my lemon filling to set in a lemon meringue pie so I gave up. I do make a really really good apple pie though.

I just had that problem with a cake where the frosting was sooooo sweet. The next night, I scraped off all the frosting, made a much lighter one, and refrosted the damn thing. Lot of work, but it was chocolate cake.

I'll check out Bethany's site, as I just posted my own kids' list of ideas, INCLUDING tie-dying! :)

Thanks for the link to Bethany. I, like her, have had a post in the works forever: 50 ideas for toddler/preschooler happiness. (Or some silly title like that.) She has motivated me to finish it. Hope to post next week.
Sorry 'bout that pie!

i know my pie-making limits. i stick to pumpkin (once a year) and that's pretty much it. i don't like to tempt the pumpkin-making gods by trying to experiment. that's how fires get started! :)

Why can't I comment on your Kitchen Party posts? Is it because I can't cook?? Sigh.

I want pie. Now.

I thought it was beautiful, and since I am not a pie eater, I would never have known the difference.

Loved your post. Sorry about the pie!

Me thinks this pie is cursed.

I decided to whip it up for dinner, substituting strawberries all the way around since I don't like cherries all that much. And using 8 oz cream cheese since why waste the 2 oz? And since we had no heavy cream, using half-and-half.

Um, don't try the 1/2-and-1/2. It's creamy sweet soup instead of a fluffy cream cheese filling. I'm attempting to freeze it right now into some sort of ice cream concoction. We'll see.

Julie said...

Oh, double bah! My miserable cream cheese soup is slowly coming into a slushy stage and my crust has been freezing for a bit and could be baked (although to what purpose I know not). However...you don't indicate a baking temperature for the crust.

Can you rescue this pie?

Wow, what a day! Can't wait to read that pie post! ;)

Thanks for the summer fun ideas recommend, we could use some!

I rarely have luck with pies, even with my grandmother's trusty crust recipie. I don't know why they defeat me, but they do.

Thanks for the list!

alpha dogma--your skeeters come before your blackflies? our blackflies hatched the second week in May and have been making us crazy! The skeeters hatched this weekend and we'll have double trouble for about 3 more weeks, then the blackflies should disappear.

sorry everyone, as you were :)

Ahhh. So THAT'S what it means if your crust is black. Actually, it's not a sad looking pie at all. But bet me I'd have pitted all those cherries. Nuh uh. I'd have bought a nice can of cherry pie filling, so I'm very impressed with your fruit tart.

Oh a comment from a Beck relative...hi Auntie Anne!
Kitchen prowess really does run in the family.

Oh I'm sorry those cherries were so tasteless! The tart crust looks so easy to make, I bet I could accomplish that :) thanks!
