So I got really sick yesterday - feverish and brainless and runny noseish - and was sort of looking forward to a lazy pajama-clad day on the couch, reading detective novels and whining. But my older two kids woke up feverish and I resigned myself instead to a day playing Florence Nightingale. Then The Girl showed me something on her back.
Oh great! 2/3 of my kids have the chicken pox. The Baby says to tell you that she is healthy and sassy and full of badness. The Girl has a book of personality tests and she keeps reading them to me: what is my style? am I honest? what kind of guy do I like? and her class starts EQAO testing this week and much of the hopes for a passing grade for her group were resting on her thin shoulders. Sorry, guys.
Update: all three of them have it now, and The Baby dropped a jar of jam on her foot. I give this day a D-.

I would be so grateful if your pox would spread to our house so my kids had it and were done with it. Although my middle child had one that looked very like just last week and I am hoping that she is like me and just gets the one due to her huge number of cold sores over the years. And I am hoping the other two get it as well so that they won't get it later.
Oh, no! I hope everyone is better soon.
oh dear, hope it doesn't last.
You should host a Pox Party and share the wealth.
I am reminded of the last week of 2nd grade. Perfect attendance ALL YEAR. That Wednesday night I found my first Chicken and even though I tried to go to school those last two days, my mean ole mom made me stay home.
That's no fun. Gingerale and oatmeal baths all around.
Ug. You know, I think your house must be biblical b/c I've never heard of any other house being cursed with so much pestilence.
Grim forbearance...
Yikes Chicken Pox! Both my girls have had the vaccine, which is not to say that they can't get it, they could just milder I am told. I had it at 16 and let me tell you it was a traumatic ordeal so hopefully your youngins will pass through easily.
No scratching kids!
Ugh...there should be a rule that kids and parents can never be sick at the same time. I hope the pox leaves your house soon. It must at least feel good to know you are getting it out of the way, hopefully forever.
Hope it passes soon! All 4 of mine got it at the same time so fortunately it's behind us. Hope YOU feel better!!
oh too funny, but not too funny- sorry! We've yet to experience the pox here! I'm sure it's someday in the future!
Steph
I hate getting sick when my kids are around. There is nothing suckier.
Hope you're all feeling better soon.
count me as another who got the pox as a teen -- no fun, no fun at all. better the Girl has it now than later. not that that's ANY consolation.
so sorry.
Oh no! I forget kids even get the Pox anymore, with the vaccine and all. What a bummer!
When my first was a baby they asked if I wanted her vaccinated against it and I wasn't really thinking so I said yes. Then I realized with my second that I kind of had to get them all vaccinated--in for a penny in for a pound kind of thing--so they've all had the shots though I probably wouldn't have done it if I had to go back. Though none have ever got sick. Let's hope it sticks and they don't get it as adults.
"...healthy and sassy and full of badness."
LOL.
Hope the itching is minimal and the scratching is disciplined.
That doesn't sound like a good time to me!
Oh that sucks!! Hope everyone feels better soon.
Poor Baby - her time is coming. ;-(
I had chicken pox at 26! I have never felt so bad in all my life. A mild case it was not. I looked terrible and I felt as if I had been hit by a semi. And then, if that wasn't bad enough - two weeks later I had the guilt that I had just given chicken pox to my then 2.5 year old daughter and my 4 month old baby girl. My baby had the worst case of pox I have ever seen - she had pox on her pox on EVERY SQUARE INCH OF HER BODY! I kid you not. There wasn't a spot on her that wasn't covered. It was awful. This was prior to the vaccine and once we experienced that I vowed to have all my other children vaccinated.
UGH for you. I hope everyone is better soon.
You and your hubby have had them, I hope?
Poor kids! Poor you!
Clip their fingernails really really short. And do not tell them that picking at pox will make a hole in their arm. My mother did this and my brother and I thought it would be so cool to have a peep hole in our arms! We purposely scratched off several pox which just made awful scabs but no real holes. Oh POOH! We were very, very LITERAL children.
I googled the EQAO and am charmed by the Soviet-era feel to the phrase "Education Quality and Accountability Office." Charmed, yet very scared.
Hope you all feel better soon. Hours and hours of YTV viewing will be very restorative.
I had chicken pox when I was 13 and it was pretty bad, especially on my face. My comment to my mother when I looked in the mirror was, "I look like Godzilla with acne!" I refused to leave the house until it was gone. So even though it's a pain at any age, it's probably better for them to have chicken pox pre-adolescence so you don't have to listen to dramatic outpourings of misery.
I'm sorry you are having to play Florence Nightingale while you are feeling bad yourself. That's the worst.
yuck ... Nothing is worse than feeling like poo and having to care for those that feel like poo ... Many hugs, may you all be well on your way to a speedy recovery!
A pox indeed! Poor all of you...I hope it passes quickly. I got the pox when I was 9...blech.
aw crap, beck.
Oh what fun...
i got the chicken pox when i was 16 and at first i was annoyed i had to stay out of school when i felt so fine and only had 5 spots on me. then it got worse and i was quite miserable for a few days. hope she's better soon.
I feel your pain. I vividly remember having them myself--it was horrible. My kids haven't gotten them yet, and I can only assume it'll be more horrible still when they do.
that sucks. i'm sorry.
Oh, crap is right! I had the pox as a kid and gave them to my sister, and they were horrid. Both my kids have been vaccinated, but never say never....calamine helps.
Hope the household recovers soon, and good luck with the testing.
Moms never get a real "sick day" anyhow, especially with little ones home during the day-- but it's so much worse when the kiddos are sick at the same time!!!
Sending anti-itchy thoughts your way...
Um, I think you are grading the day a little unfairly. It deserves an F.
Please 'think' the chicken pox our direction. We've intentionally exposed our children at least six times over the years (at every single stage of the illness) and STILL haven't managed to contract it. Does it sound insane that I'm jealous?
oh! boo for the pox!
Oh, you! So sorry. Are you making baby-mâché with a baking soda poultice?
I give your day an A++! Natural chicken pox! Wonderful. So much better than getting the Varicella vaccine. Three of my four had them, and they really weren't so bad.
Boo. You're in for a pretty terrible couple of days, I imagine. Sorry, dude.
Oh no, oh no!!!! I am so sorry! Hopefully it will be mild cases all around.
Hang in there!
I hope everyone feels better very soon!
My sister still has an old chicken pock scar between her eyes: she knocked it off trying on a pair of kid sunglasses in the checkout lane of Shopko. :)
Just tell me this...tell me they didn't get the Varivax vaccine 'cause if they did and they're still sick...
Oh, dear. To be Pollyanna about it, at least you're getting it all over with at once. But on the actaul experience side of it, that say doesn't even deserve a D-. It deserves you running away from home.
Praying for you:) for strength and patience. But I too would like it to come and just be done:)
And I LOVE those personality tests!
Oh dear! Praying for better days!
Lucky!!!
Can I come over and have a "Pox Party"?
oh honey. I see a porridge bath in your near future.
Well, at least you can just get it over will all at once. My kids had the vaccine so they probably won't get it, which seems so weird to me. Chicken pox seems like a rite of passage, or something.
Ugh. I am sorry, Beck. Hope you are all on the mend...
Heidi
A D- is a pretty bad day! Hope things get better for you soon! Could you mail me a few pox---I've got two kids who need to catch it!
What the heck. I don't know anyone who's had chicken pox since I was a kid! But I remember it well, and I feel your pain. All three at once - wow, what are the odds.
I am doubly sorry that you are sick, too. Motherhood is not for wimps.
Oh how awful. I wish the US let kids get it and be done with it. But no. They have to vaccinate. Dolts.
I hope this passes quickly. And I hope you are able to find some rest to heal.
Smooches!
SONOFABUCK! The germies need to LEAVE Y'ALL ALONE already. This is just not RIGHT.
(and yes, I am SCREAMING.) I'm mad, I'm frustrated, and I want this fixed. Now.
I hope at least you are all resting peacefully right now and that the night will go smoothly. Sick feels much better when you're still getting decent sleep.
Oh dear! I give this day an F (for failed)...guess, you've got 2 weeks of less-rest time....
Oh no! So sorry to hear this. I hope that at least YOU are feeling energized and able to cope VERY soon!
Oh no... best of luck and I hope it goes away FAST.
oh no babe...feel better!
Yikes! Stock up on lotion and oatmeal bath stuff. I had two kids with the chicken pox at the same time. Three sounds like so much more. May tomorrow be better! xo
Awwww terrible news. Get well soon!
ONLY a D-? You're generous. I hope you are all feeling better soon!
wow! what a fun time for you! Shall I send my cold your way just to make it even more exciting??
Seriously - hang in there.
This will be me one day soon.
Hugs,
K
Oh I wish my kids would get the pox. I got the older one vaccinated but I am hoping the younger one gets it because I don't trust the vaccine to stick around in his system and I don't trust a twenty year old to go get a booster.
Anyway, can we come over?
