The Baby's Monthly Update

The 21st of January came and went and I did not write the Baby's monthly update, mainly because the day before had been The Boy's birthday. However, there has been complaints from certain quarters and so, slightly belatedly, here is The Baby: Month Twenty One. You've kind of been a twerp this past month - you really have discovered yelling and that your older brother and sister will give you ANYTHING you want if you just march over and scream "MINE! NOOOOOOOOOO!". You've been using your Brand New Excellent Social Skills in public, pushing around older toddlers and I think that it's a little bit funny because your older siblings were so timid as toddlers and here you are, this little loudmouthed mite.

You really, really like having your way and suddenly you're verbal enough to be able to say what you want most of the time - the other night, you came marching in at bedtime wearing a pair of fuzzy footed sleepers with Halloween socks pulled up on top to your thighs, your sister's knock-off Snow White t-shirt and your beloved red zippered sweater. I looked quizzically at your father who normally doesn't put you into anything worse than sweatshirts under overalls, and he shrugged and said that you'd really, really wanted to wear that. Well, okay.
Your world suddenly seems a little bit bigger, with nursery hour at the library and playgroup, trips to the post office and friends' houses. You seem more indomintable than your siblings, more brazen - you forge ahead with the expectation that everyone will be your friend, that there are no dangers that won't be removed from your path, nothing you can't yell at into submission. You're very verbal, and until you collapse asleep after lunch, I'm followed around by a steady stream of comments, a running excited narration:
"Mama and Baby eata cheese!"
"Kitty onna chair!"
"Red sweater! Mine! Mitten pockets!"
"Bad kitty! Kitty scratch! Scratch baby!"
"Look mama! Finger ina nose!"
"Haaaaaalp! Stuck ona chair! Haaaaaaalp!"
All day long. And do I have to even mention what a pain in the butt you are in church? The elderly congregants LOVE to see you, but you spent all of service last Sunday yelling about monkeys and bunnies, and shrieking "leggo!" every five seconds. You DO look cute in your spiffy Sunday clothes, though.
It's been a rough month for you health-wise. Several bouts of illness have cost you some of your hard-earned weight, which is distressing. You had to get some needles earlier this month, which disgusted you - you yelled at the poor nurse practioner "Hey! No way! Stop! JEEEZ!" - but recovered from your post-needle crying to take the stickers offered to you by the nurse. When I told you to say thank you (which you'll normally do - you're a loud person but a polite one), you shot me a dirty look and muttered "no WAY." and then marched off with your stickers, unsure of your destination but confident that you'd find friendly faces when you got wherever you're going.

It's Groundhog Day today! Regard my cupcakes:

Their searching glares ask you to look deeply into yourself and ask "Have I voted for Beck yet?". (Humour! Writing! Meeting! Go vote!)

Adorable post, and perfect to print out and put in a scrapbook for her. I love that you journal her life, month by month. Precious.

Did I already say that I voted for you just about every time I saw your name. CAUSE I DID SISTA!!

I am way impressed with her verbal skills. My 2 1/2 year old id speaking about like that right now. She is adorable. Loved the pics!

Love that last photo of her. She's adorable. She sounds like a girl with a mission - world domination.
:-)

Your cupcake talent astounds me. I didn't even remember that it is groundhog day much less make cupcakes to celebrate it! My poor kids.

Yes, I voted for you. Of course!

She's a little doll. A very sweet post for her, Beck!

Look at your cupcakes. You, ma'am are the cupcake queen. They are so cute!

What a sweet little baby you have, and a great way to document her monthly. I found you through the "Share the love" blog awards, btw

Oh! The piercing gaze of edible groundhogs! They are not to be resisted.

Baby is so adorable.

Adorable.

Yes, the kid, but the sweater! Good choice! ;)

I LOVE that she said "Jeez" to the NP!

And, you make cupcakes on Groundhog Day? You have got to be the best mother in the whole wide world.

And yay for cupcakes!

B-e-a-uuuutiful little girl. She does look mischievous, though! That brazenness is really admirable and I hope she keeps it. Although it wouldn't be tragic if her fashion sense improved a little. Shoulda been a picture of THAT, I think :-)

Now I'm hungry for cupcakes. Dammit. Where can I go and get me some cupcakes around here ... [wandering off]

In the interests of full disclosure, I am totally going to admit that those are cupcakes that I made for The Girl's Kindergarten class several years ago. Tonight, we're going to have stuffed crepes for dinner - the traditional Candlemas meal, for some mysterious reason - and a cake with a candy groundhog popping up, because I am NOT makign 30 groundhogs again.

LOVE the cupcakes! And I loved the baby update--I hadn't read one before. That seems like it'd be a great idea for a journal. Do you do that to?

Thanks for reposting the picture! You look so poised and content.

Great Baby update. I loved her sayings, brought back a lot of lovely memories. And I'll repeat myself, that sweater is the cutest ever--I don't blame the Baby for being possessive about it.
You are brave to bring her into church. I subscribe to the "leave them in the nursery" philosophy because I'm lazy and never have a babysitter otherwise. But I'm sure that kids who are in church grow up with better manners.
Thank you for showing off your cupcakes.

I love that the first line is, "You've kind of been a twerp this past month..." She certainly sounds like she can hold her own!! I wonder who would be the victor if she and KayTar were to have a playdate. KayTar rules the roost with a tiny, yet iron fist. :) Maybe they would see that it is an even match and agree to play kindly. *lol*

"You've kind of been a twerp this past month."

Perfect. And look at those pretty little eyes...

Great Baby Update! :) I'd love to see which one would win the yelling contest: The Baby or my Bean. ;)
Cupcakes regarded. Fantastic! And did they see their shadows?
And yes, I voted. :)

She is completely adorable. A handful, apparently, but I like this little girl. She has attitude!

And you are a cupcake wizard. Those are maybe your cutest ones yet.

Happy twenty-first month, baby! And yes, I voted ;-)

She is so stinkin' cute, I don't know how you stand it! It's funny you used the word twerp, I tell Kayla all the time, "you're such a little twerp!" and she'll say twerp!"

Yes I voted! It was so hard to choose a category though!

The cupcakes do rock! At first glance I was like ... wha? a groundhog smoking?!?! but I was gravely mistaken!

Great summery for a month! Those pictures are too cute for words!

Love that running commentary. As if you need her to tell you "finger ina nose!" She is precious, and we'll take it a day or two late. When you're that cute, who's counting?

I voted for you yesterday!!!!

Love those pics of the baby!! How darling!!!! Love the updates.

Now, or last year, those cupcakes ROCK! Are you, like, the best mother ever??? I bow down before your motherliness...

The Baby is so cute!

Those are beautiful pictures (even the scary grondhogs.) She is so sweet.

Pure gold! I wish I could mutter "No WAY!" and get away with it.

You have quite a little character there.

Beautiful baby! *Smile*

The cupcakes make me feel guilty... I think I would have to eat the eyes first... *LOL*

Don't tell my children I said this (I'll never admit to it) but I think those might be the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen! Gorgeous!
